Phil holds a Bachelor of Commerce (UQ) - Marketing Major, a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance & Investment (FINSIA), a Certificate in Property investment Analysis (QUT) and is a Fellow of CISI (Certified

He also holds a Cert II in Security Operations (NSTA) and is a licensed security advisor.

Phil worked for accounting firm Arthur Andersen before joining family-owned property developer and tourism operator Delta Holdings. He then went on to become General Manager of ASEAN Ltd, a publicly listed all-suite hotel & resort developer. Phil was later appointed Exec Dir/GM of listed resort operator & developer, Koala Corporation Australia Ltd, which was described under Phil's watch by what was then Australia's leading business mag as a "successful resort doctor".

He then went into private business and was MD of Hogan Brothers Pty Ltd for over 30 years. With partners it acquired large hospitality venues in Brisbane's CBD, which sometimes included the underlying property. It re-themed, refitted and relaunched them. Hogan Brothers operated a number of landmark venues including Jade Buddha.
